The first level of My Marathi - Textbook and Workbook was released  on 13th August 2014 by the actor Aamir Khan, who generously donated Rs. 25 lakhs at the very initial stage of this project. Despite shortage of resources, Prof. Vibha Surana and her team continued working further on the other levels. In 2017 University of Mumbai entered into an agreement with Rajya Marathi Vikas Sanstha (RMVS). A munificent grant made available by RMVS helped to  fund the project. The project ‘My Marathi’ has striven to make an invaluable contribution to the preservation and development of Marathi language.

My Marathi’ is an innovative interdisciplinary project initiated in 2012 by Prof. Vibha Surana, Department of German of Mumbai University that aims to teach Marathi to non-native speakers. Under this unique project, 6 Levels ranging from the elementary to the advanced stage of text and workbooks with audio-visual content have been created in accordance with the Common European Framework of Languages (CEFR). Besides the language textbooks and workbooks, four short courses have been developed for nurses, rickshaw and taxi drivers, bank employees and government officials. An app for level 1 has also been designed.

The Project had three objectives: Creating modern, action-oriented and comprehensive study material, training teachers to use and apply the content offline as well as online classrooms. Since 2014 the Certificate Course in Communicative Marathi has been offered by the Department  and till date three levels of the course and 11 batches have been taught. In the wake of the corona outbreak the course has been offered on an online mode. For this, online teaching training was given to aspiring and qualified Marathi teachers.

With the project now completed, My Marathi books of levels 2 to 6, 4 short courses and My Marathi app for Level 1 will be released on Sunday, 27th February 2022 by Shri Subhash Desai, Hon’ble Minister for Marathi.
