​​​FAQs for the TELC EXAM

1. Who can give the telc exam? 

Ans.: Anyone, who has knowledge of the language at par with the respective level.

2. How much does the examination cost?

3. How can I prepare for the exam?

i. You can prepare yourself by attending language preparatory courses or by self-study. Course books are available online that will prepare you specifically for your chosen language level.    

ii. Familiarise yourself with the examination procedure and the types of sub-tests in the telc examination. The practice tests and the learning objectives will help you with this.

4. Do I have to prove my German language skills before I book the live online Preparatory Course for telc Examination?

Ans. No. There is no test. But please consider whether your language skills already correspond to the target level of the exam. The live online Preparatory Course is specifically for exam preparation only. If you wish to do a language course, kindly check here.

5. Is it compulsory to do a preparatory course before attempting the TELC Exam?

Ans.: No, it is not compulsory to do a preparatory course before attempting the TELC Exam. However, a preparatory course will prepare you better.

​

6. Can I take the examination multiple times?

Ans.: Yes, exams can be repeated as often as you like by registering and paying the fees again. Whether you take the entire exam (both the written and the oral part) or only part of the exam depends on the level of the exam.

​7. Do the orals and written take place on the same day?

Ans.: Your telc examination centre will decide on the examination date. There must not be more than 7 days between the examination parts if they are taken on different days.

​

8. Is the exam pen and paper based or digital?

Ans. The telc exam (written, i.e. reading, writing and listening) is digital and the oral exams take place in person.

​

9. What are the passing marks for the exam?

Ans. For A Levels the test taker must achieve a result of at least 60% in written and oral examination combined. For B Levels, the test taker must achieve a result of at least 60% in written and oral examination respectively.

10.. ​What am I allowed to take in the examination room?

Ans.: You may take pencils, pens, sharpeners and erasers into the oral examination room. Drinks are only allowed in transparent bottles without labels. Personal hygiene items such as paper tissues are also allowed. Jackets, bags, mobile phones, wrist watches and other items may not be taken into the room and must be handed in before the examination begins.

11. Are the dictionaries allowed?

Ans.: No, dictionaries, textbooks, notes or sample answers are considered unauthorised aids and are not allowed.

12. When will I receive my results?

Ans.: Depending on the number of examinations written and the examinations to be worked on, it can take between 4 to 6 weeks until you receive your result.
